Free Post and Packing Information and international shipping

Makes a Change sends all orders over £20, absolutely free of postal charges within mainland UK. We used to send all parcels free of charge, however with the huge increases in postal charges we regret that we are unable to sustain this. However, we have kept postage to a tiny £1.95 - and still free over £20.

We use Royal Mail Second Class for most orders, but for larger or very valuable orders we may use a carrier. In this case we will usually email you to let you know when to expect the parcel as it will need to be signed for.

Unless your order is a special order (in which case we contact you ro arrange a delivery date), orders are usually sent the next working day after you order meaning that you can typically expect your order to arrive within 3 or 4 working days, often sooner.

International Shipping - Orders to outside Mainland UK

Carriage for overseas orders is calculated by our website at checkout, giving you time to review the costs and decide whether you are happy with them before you proceed. You will be given options for different types of carriage. PLEASE NOTE that if you do not choose an insured method of shipment, while we will do all we can to trace any missing parcels we cannot be responsible for them. That said, so far we have yet to have a parcel which has disappeared completely - they've always turned up!
We are always fair with our shipping charges -very occasionally our shopping cart has charged in excess of what the actual postage costs - if this is the case we ALWAYS issue a refund towards postage. If you are not sure about a shipping charge and are in a hurry, please be reassured that we will will ship it out and issue a refund if you are charged excessively for shipping. Otherwise if you want to contact us before ordering to reassess the shipping charges please do so.
We ship to everywhere except the USA and Canada. We are very disappointed that our insurance prohibits us from shipping to the USA and Canada and are constantly looking for an insurance solution that allows us to ship to those countries too.

Our Eco Friendly Packaging

We usually use plastic shipping envelopes for our order. These are made from recycled plastic and are biodegradeable, and reusable. They are not recyclable and should not be mixed with recycle plastics. We sometimes use paper to pack orders which is re-used paper which we have been sent in crumpled sheets as packing fillers from our suppliers, or recycled brown paper.

For larger orders we use cardboard boxes and sometimes packaging fillers such as bubble wrap, crumpled paper, paper shreddings or packing peanuts. This packaging is ALWAYS re-used - either saved from shipments from our suppliers or donated to us from local companies who bring them to us rather than throwing them away.

The reason that we choose to use our eco plastic envelopes is:

• They are better than paper for protecting your order
• They fully degrade even in landfill, in the dark, with no oxygen available (the degrading process starts upon exposure to UV light and then the bag will start to biologically degrade even if then put back into the dark). The whole process takes 3-6 months, and leaves just carbon dioxide, water and a tiny amount of non-toxic, inert mineral material (less than 5% of the original mass)
• They can be re-used several times which reduces waste
• The plastic used is very safe and means no migration of nasty chemicals from the packaging - in fact the plastic is approved for use in food contact applications

We accept that there is no perfect packaging system but we continually review our options and always try to make the best decisions we can.

We usually remove the plastic bags which our stock is sent to us in and these are either bagged and sent in bulk for recycling, or used to wrap bottles of our lovely organic, parabens-free baby shampoo, bubble bath and body wash just in case of leaks in the post.

Giftwrap

We offer a giftwrap service on most orders. Some items which are sent drop-ship from our suppliers can be gift wrapped, but as they will need to be sent to us first then they may take a few days longer to arrive. Non-sale shoes are all sent drop-ship but most of the rest of our products are sent from us. If you need any information on this please ask us.

We use handmade, eco-friendly giftwrap paper, with a ribbon and a gift tag made from handmade, recycled paper from a wonderful community development project in Mozambique.

If you wish to giftwrap your order, please choose the item "giftwrap" and we will giftwrap the entire order. If you only want part of your order giftwrapping, please send us a separate email to let us know the details.

Returns

If you wish to return an item, please email us via our contact form giving the order number (or if you don't have it, the name that the order was placed in) and the reason for the return, plus what you would like us to do - refund, replace, etc - and what the problem is - faulty, doesn't fit, not what you expected and so on.

You have the legal right to return any item within 14 days of receipt for a refund for any reason, however we feel that this sometimes isn't long enough, so we offer a 100% no-quibble return-for-refund policy within 30 days of receipt. After 30 days we will usually accept returns and will provide a credit note - please just ask us if you'd like to send something back and we'll always help.
